San Diego County is home to 6 universities, 32

post-secondary schools.
Research Institutions
Research and development is a strong leader in
San Diego's future economic development. The
area's institutions of higher learning have
established San Diego as a top-rate research
community. In addition to public non-profit
research centers, more than 300 private firms
conduct research under government contracts.
UCSD, a major magnet for research institutions,
ranks among the nation's top 15 in the amount of
funds received from the National Science
Foundation and fifth among all U.S. colleges and
